At long last, the Android 9 (Pie) update for the HTC U11+ has finally arrived! HTC started pushing out the update to the Taiwanese variant of the phone. While the update is quite large at 1.45GB, there are very few visual changes included in the update. Users will notice that the notification shade and quick toggles have a slightly newer look as does the main settings screen, but that’s about it. You will find Android Pie’s Adaptive Battery Mode buried in the settings, but HTC’s software team decided not to include navigational gestures in the update.
BlinkFeed looks the same as well, but the update has stripped out support for Google+ since Google’s social media platform is now defunct. As far as performance goes, some users have reported a slight jump in benchmark scores, but you’ll likely not notice any difference in day-to-day use.
Overall, the Android 9 update for the HTC U11+ is a great step forward. We’re just hoping that HTC will be releasing another update in the future which will also include Android Pie’s navigational gestures. If the update has not hit your device yet, you can go to Settings > System > About Phone > Software update and tap the Check Now button at the bottom. Let us know what you think of the new update and if you find any other new features that HTC may have included.
