The Samsung Galaxy Fold was meant to revolutionize the smartphone industry. For pretty much a decade, if not more, smartphones have maintained the same candy bar form factor, but the Galaxy Fold was meant to challenge that status quo by introducing a foldable design, potentially changing the way we use our phones.
Unfortunately, it seems that the march of progress has encountered some hiccups and if you were hoping to see the Galaxy Fold launch anytime soon, prepare for a wait. This is because in a report from The Korea Herald, Samsung has come forward and denied the rumors that the phone could be released in July. In a statement provided to the publication, a Samsung official was quoted as saying:
“If we are running such a media event this month, we should be doing something by now. Nothing has progressed since the April delay.”
For those who are unfamiliar with what’s been going on, Samsung has run into some quality issues with the build of the handset. This was initially discovered when the phone was sent out to reviewers who mistakenly peeled off the screen’s protective layering, thinking it was just a regular screen protector (it wasn’t). It was also discovered that debris could get caught in the hinge which could cause problems when folding the phone.
Samsung has since issued a recall where the company stated that they would be looking to improve upon the build ahead of its release. Unfortunately, progress on that front seems to be taking longer than expected where it has resulted in both Best Buy and AT&T canceling pre-orders until a new release date has been set.
