Foldable smartphones are definitely a trend at the moment, and it seems that everyone wants to get in on it. Huawei has been reported to be working on a foldable smartphone and based on a recently discovered patent, LetsGoDigital has cooked up some interesting looking renders of what that phone might look like.
We have to admit that based on these renders, Huawei’s foldable phone doesn’t look too exciting. It looks like what most would expect a foldable phone to look like, where there will be a folding mechanism placed down the spine of the phone. Unlike clamshell phones, Huawei’s phone will fold outwards, meaning that the display will be on the outside when folded in half, allowing the device to act as a smartphone when folded and transformed into a tablet when unfolded.
Whether or not Huawei’s actual foldable phone will end up looking like this remains to be seen. The company does have plans to show off several new devices at MWC 2019, such as a phone that will support 5G as well as a foldable handset. Whether they are one and the same is unclear, although Huawei’s CEO Richard Yu did state back in October last year that there was still a lot of work left to be done.
Huawei also won’t be alone in showing off their foldable phone. Samsung’s upcoming Unpacked event in February is expected to unveil the Galaxy S10, although based on the teasers that Samsung has been leaving, the company is also expected to reveal its foldable phone in full and give us a better look than what they did last year at SDC.
