Xiaomi’s smartphones have always leaned more towards the affordable end, but it seems that the company’s latest smartphone, the Redmi Go, could take the cake as it comes in at a price tag around $90. Also as its name implies, this is a smartphone that runs on Google’s Android Go platform.
For those unfamiliar, Android Go has been designed and optimized specifically for lower-end handsets, which also explains why the handset is priced under $100. We’re talking about a phone that is packing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage that can be further expanded via microSD.
It also features a 5-inch display with a 720p HD display resolution, a 3,000mAh battery, and an 8MP rear-facing camera with flash, and a 5MP selfie camera on the front. Xiaomi boasts durable battery life and we wouldn’t be surprised if it were true given that it seems to be a relatively low-powered handset. It will also come with Android 8.1 Oreo Go Edition preinstalled.
It’s not the most impressive of phones, but then again at $90, what can you really expect? If you’re looking for a secondary handset or if you simply believe that flagship smartphones are not worth the price or hype, then this could be worth keeping an eye out for. Unfortunately there are no plans to release the phone in the US yet, but it is expected to go on sale in Europe soon, so for those living stateside, your best bet might be a gray import.
