5G LG V50 ThinQ could be launched alongside the LG G8

0

LG’s pattern of releasing flagships has been at two devices a year. One will be launched in the first half of the year, and the other will be launched in the second half of the year. This year could be a completely different story because if the reports from Korea are to be believed, LG could launch two flagship phones side-by-side this year.

It is largely expected that the LG G8 would be announced at MWC 2019, but the reports are claiming that not only will the LG G8 be announced, but so could the LG V50. To top it off, they are claiming that the LG V50 will be LG’s 5G smartphone. This is in line with the rumors we’ve been hearing in which it was previously reported that LG could unveil their 5G smartphone next month.

It was already speculated that LG’s 5G smartphone would be a separate device and would not be a feature in the LG G8, so the idea of LG launching the LG V50 with 5G isn’t too surprising. At the same time we have to wonder about product cannibalization where customers might choose to purchase the LG V50 instead of the LG G8 in a bid to futureproof themselves.

It also begs the question of what LG might have planned for the rest of the year as this is basically LG putting all of their cards on the table. We should probably take this with a grain of salt for now, but we are only a few weeks away from MWC 2019 and hopefully we’ll have our confirmation then.
