While OnePlus continues to dominate the market with the OnePlus 5T and its specs for just $500, the market has been looking for another great device to take on the 5T. We have been expecting to see a true successor to the ZTE Axon 7 for some time, but that just has not been the case over the last year and a half.
The ZTE Axon M
However, we are beginning to learn more information about the upcoming Axon device, with the latest bit of information coming directly from ZTE’s CEO, Cheng Lixin. At an event in China to debut the dual-screened ZTE Axon M, Lixin confirmed that the naming moniker for the upcoming Axon device would be the ZTE Axon 9.
The ZTE Axon 9 will be the “spiritual successor” to the Axon 7, which was launched in 2016, and recently saw its update to Android Oreo. The reason for the naming moniker is partially due to the fact that 2018 will see the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and presumably Apple’s iPhone 9 later this year. It would make sense for ZTE to keep up with the competition in some facets, even if the device won’t be mentioned in the same breath as the previously mentioned options.
This confirmation comes after ZTE’s official Twitter account confirmed that a successor to the Axon 7 was in the works, but no other information has been shared or leaked. We’ll be left to wondering what ZTE has been working on, and if this will be a new “flagship killer”, or if it will be one of the best mid-range options on the market.
Let us know what you think about this latest confirmation from ZTE, and if you are excited to see what’s to come in 2018 from the company.
