Samsung Gear smartwatches will get SmartThings app this year

Samsung has had a lot to announce at CES so far, but one announcement didn’t get a ton of attention. Smart home enthusiasts will be happy to hear that SmartThings is coming to Gear smartwatches. The app will be available on the Gear S3 and Gear Sport later this year. Samsung did not give a more specific launch window.

This is a big deal for smart home users. Convenience is a big factor for smart homes. Connected light bulbs and gadgets are cool, but it can be a pain if you have to pull out your phone to simply turn on a lamp. Making it easier to control your smart home is important. SmartThings is probably the leading smart home platform, so it’s nice to see Samsung do more integration.
