New information has been revealed which may suggest that Samsung is nearing an open-beta program for owners of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus for the Android 8.0 Oreo update. This information comes after initial reports claimed that Samsung had started work on the latest software update with intentions to bring the update to users sooner rather than later.
Based on the initial Oreo build numbers, new build numbers for the Galaxy S8 lineup have been revealed, which read as “G950FXXE1ZQI7 and G955FXXU1ZQI7“. The reason for the speculation of a beta program is the letter “Z” found in the build numbers, which refer to a beta program similar to what was found with Android Nougat on the Galaxy S7 lineup.
According to SamMobile, there’s no other information regarding a timeline for this beta program to begin, but if Samsung is already working on preparing test software, we could be closer than expected. Hopefully, we’ll be able to test Android Oreo on our Samsung devices before the end of the year, but I wouldn’t put money on those odds.
Maybe, just maybe, since Android Oreo is not as drastic of a change as Android Nougat was, then Samsung will have an easier time bringing it to our devices. Let us know what you think about this latest report by dropping us a line below.
