The ‘Vive Focus’ could be HTC’s standalone virtual reality headset

Despite all of the troubles that HTC is currently going through with its mobile division, the company is still seemingly experiencing some good things with its Virtual Reality division. The HTC Vive is one of the more popular VR headsets, but the problem with this (or any) VR headsets is that you need an extremely powerful gaming PC to be able to run any of the games or programs.

Reports began sprouting up back in February that HTC was working on a standalone VR headset, but things have been rather quiet on that front in recent months. That has changed after a new trademark was filed in the EU and the US for the “Vive Focus”. The reason for the speculation comes down to the description of the Vive Focus, which reads as a “head-mounted display” which shows a “computer simulated reality.”

While it’s no secret that HTC has been attempting to sell its virtual reality division, it seems that company is continuing to push forward and create new products. Although, we’re probably going to have to wait some time before hearing anything of substance out of the HTC camp.

Other details regarding the Vive Focus are scarce, and we don’t really know how this new headset will work. We also don’t know if it will be marketed towards the smartphone owners, or if this will be another product that will need to work with a computer of some capacity.

Regardless, a standalone VR headset would be extremely welcome, especially if it’s found to be more powerful than Google’s Daydream, and Samsung’s Gear VR. So let us know what you think about this latest report and if you’ll be interested to see a standalone VR headset hit the market.
