The Galaxy S9 could feature a camera sensor capable of 1000 FPS

WAY back in February, Sony announced its 2017 flagship with the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. The device includes many features that we would want a flagship smartphone, save for a fingerprint scanner (at least here in the States). However, the real story with the XZ Premium was the camera, as the device comes equipped with a 19MP camera which is capable of shooting up to 960fps in 720p.

This is rather impressive, but it seems that Samsung may be gearing up to take on the XZ Premium, or even overtake the device with the Galaxy S9. A new report claims that Samsung is currently working on a new sensor of its own which will be able to capture up to 1000 FPS. This is done by using two layers, then flipping the package to add to the DRAM module.

While there’s no guarantee that this new sensor will arrive on the Galaxy S9, but the report claims that the sensors will enter the mass production stage sometime in November. This estimated production timeline gives Samsung plenty of time to get the sensors manufactured, and then inserted into the company’s 2018 flagship in time for the device’s launch.

Of course, it’s important to mention that we tend to take these early rumors with a grain of salt. There is just too much time left between now and Samsung’s intended announcement date for its next device, but hey, it’s still fun to think about what’s to come.

Let us know whether you would like to be able to shoot videos at 1000 FPS, or if you think this would just be another gimmick from Samsung.
