There are a lot of devices due to be released in the coming months, but for now, the Moto Z2 Force is the latest and greatest. Now that the device is available from your favorite carrier (or Moto directly), we’re here to share some of the best tips. Oh, and just in case you think we didn’t count, here are all 44 Moto Z2 Force Tips & Tricks. Check out the list below and let us know of some of your favorites!
When starting up your new Moto Z2 Force for the first time, you’ll be presented with a screen that says “Welcome”. From here, there are two options to consider, the first of which is to copy your data from your previous device, while the second option gives you the ability to start with a clean slate.
If you want to transfer your data from your old phone to the new one, you’ll want to select “Copy your data”. After logging into your home Wi-Fi, you’ll be presented with another screen which will ask you where your data is currently housed. Here are the three options presented:
You’ll need to select the option that works best for you, but it’s important to recognize that if you choose to backup from an Android phone directly, this process takes place via NFC. If selected, you’ll need to ensure that the NFC capabilities of your old phone are turned on, and then follow these steps:
Once you hear the tone, you’ll be prompted to log in with your Google account and the transfer will begin. Once completed, you’ll have to wait for a little while, depending upon how much information was stored on your old device, and then you’ll be ready to go!
When it comes to sharing something specific on your screen, you’ll need to know how to take a screenshot with relative ease. Unlike previous Moto devices, there is no longer a Moto Gesture to swipe your hand across the screen to take a screenshot.
Instead, there are two other options that are available with the Moto Z2 Force. The first is the traditional method of using the hardware buttons. To do this, simply hold down the Volume Down and Power buttons for a second and you’ll see your screen flash, then the screenshot will show up in your notification bar for you to interact with or share.
The second method takes advantage of Google Assistant, and allows you to take a screenshot without needing to even touch the screen. For this method, here are the steps:
These may not be the most intuitive ways to take a screenshot, but at least you now know how to do so on your Moto Z2 Force.

It’s no secret that there’s a plastic protective layer over the top of your display on the Moto Z2 Force. This is part of Motorola’s ShatterShield Display technology, but there’s a rather large problem here. The “protective” plastic gets scratched VERY easily and can be indented using just a fingernail.
This is going to drive some folks insane, and the best way to combat this is to pick up a tempered glass screen protector, and there are already plenty of options available on Amazon. With the device just being released, it may be difficult to find a reliable option, but Skinomi is one of the few that have already posted a few options to decide from. Here are some others that are worth checking out:
Since Moto Mods were introduced last year, there was some concern that these Mods would be forgotten and would not be compatible with the next-generation of smartphones. Luckily, that’s not the case, and any Moto Mod that was purchased last year should work with the new Moto Z2 Force without any issues.
Plus, with the launch of the Moto Z2 Play, there have been even more Moto Mods launched, including a 360-degree camera Mod that will be coming later this year. Finally, if you want to keep the low profile offered by the Z2 Force, but want to change up the look a bit, you can get a Moto Style Cover Mod to switch things up a bit.
Here are some recommendations for the different Moto Mods you could check out, including some Style Covers:
If you opt for a standard Moto Mod and not just a style cover, chances are there will be software updates released throughout the duration of you owning the Z2 Force and Mods. You won’t be notified of a software update in the same sense that one would come through on your phone. Instead, you’ll need to manually check for one.
In order to make sure everything is up to date, you’ll need to attach your Moto Mod of choice, and follow these steps:
If there’s a software update available, your device will download and install the update on your attached Moto Mod, so you’ll want to make sure that you don’t disconnect the Moto Mod at any time during this process.
Unlike other offerings on the market, the Moto Z2 Force features a higher base storage, making it easier to store your favorite music, videos, and other content. However, if you’re looking to bring a bunch of your files over to your new Z2 Force from your old device, a microSD card is definitely the best way to do so.
Thankfully, Motorola has kept the microSD card slot, making for an easy way to expand your storage up to 2TB if you absolutely needed to. This would be helpful if you end up shooting videos in 4K on a regular basis. Here are some of our recommendations for a solid microSD card:

One of the most important and convenient features you’ll find on modern day smartphones is the ability to secure and unlock your device using your fingerprints. With a fingerprint button located on the front chin of the device, registering your fingerprints is extremely easy on the Moto Z2 Force. You can either set up your fingerprints during the setup process, but if you skipped over that section for whatever reason, here’s how you can set it up from inside the Settings app:
Returning on the Moto Z2 Force is Motorola’s plethora of add-ons that make this stock Android experience feel even better. These can be accessed from the built-in Moto app, and contain various tweaks including gestures, voice actions, and more.
Starting with Moto Actions, you have the ability to remove the on-screen navigation buttons (see the next section), quickly karate chop the air to turn on or off the flashlight, or flick your wrist twice to quickly open the camera. These can be toggle on or off with ease from the Moto App, but we aren’t sure why you wouldn’t want to karate chop whenever you needed to turn on the flashlight.
Other options here include the ability to pick up your new phone to turn stop it from ringing during a phone call, as well as swiping down on your screen to shrink it and make the status bar easier to access. Whatever gestures you would want to use, you can find in here (with the exception of a screenshot gesture for some reason.)
This next one is a bit different as it’s for those who want to try using just the home button to navigate their new Moto Z2 Force. By default, Motorola has enabled the standard on-screen navigation bar, but there’s a way to disable this. By disabling the navigation bar, you will be able to use gestures on your home button to navigate throughout the device and get some extra screen real-estate. Here are the steps necessary to take advantage of this feature:
While devices like the Galaxy S8 and LG G6 are featuring larger displays in smaller form factors, the Moto Z2 Force keeps a traditional aspect ratio with its 5.5-inch display. Thankfully, Motorola has included a quick gesture that allows you to shrink the screen, making it much more accessible for one-handed usage.
Once enabled, you will be able to swipe from the center of your screen to the bottom left or right corner to activate the one-handed mode. This way you can reach the status bar without needing to perform gymnastics with one hand. If you want to go back to the normal view, simply tap the black area surrounding your new home screen and everything will go back to normal.

In addition to the various gestures that can be performed with Moto Actions, you can also put your Z2 Force to work with nothing more than your voice. Sure, you could use Google Assistant to do many things, but the cool thing with Moto Voice is that you can get a quick breakdown of your day.
This could definitely come in handy if you happen to be running late and need to know where your first appointment is in the morning. Or, maybe you need to get a quick look at your emails to see whether that email from your boss is truly that important or if you can snooze it for later.
As has been the case with many Motorola devices since the Moto X burst onto the scene, Moto’s Active Display feature makes its return. This allows you to easily view your various notifications from your lock screen, without needing to unlock the device and saving some battery life in the process.
There are some settings that can be configured from within the Moto Display section, and these include the following:
We all love customizing our devices, and since the notification bar is one of the most used areas of your device, it’s important to know that you can customize those Quick Settings that are at the top of your screen. Furthermore, there are even some apps that can take advantage of this, allowing you to quickly access your favorite apps (like 5217 or Todoist) with just a swipe and a tap.
Best of all, you can re-position the placement of these toggles, making the ones that you use the most, more easily accessible. If you’re looking to do so, here are the steps:

When it comes to adjusting the screen color mode, this is a feature you would expect to see on an LCD display, not necessarily on an AMOLED display. An AMOLED display already features deeper color contrast and saturation, as well as being essential for features like Moto Display. However, hidden with the Display settings on these devices is the ability to switch between “Standard” and “Vibrant”
When selecting Standard, the colors on the device feel a bit more muted and washed out when compared to the Vibrant option. Seemingly, this is the reason why “Vibrant” is the default option out of the box, but may not be everyone’s favorite.
Introduced alongside Android Nougat, you can now adjust the display size and font size on your various devices. The same rings true with the Moto Z2 Force as you can access the font and display size from the Settings application.
Starting with changing the Display Size, this will change the size of objects on your display, and there are three settings to choose from: Small, Default, or Large. In order to access these settings, follow these steps:
If you’ve changed your display size, but still aren’t satisfied with the results, you can also adjust the Font Size, which will either show more or less information on your display. In order to access these, follow these steps:
With the Font Size settings, there are actually 4 different options to choose from: Small, Default, Large, or Largest. Best of all, while you’re changing either the Display or Font sizes, you will see a live preview, to help you determine what option is the best for your eyes.
Sometimes it’s time to say goodbye or sometimes it’s time to wipe the slate clean for a fresh start. If that’s the case for you and your Moto Z2 Force, it’s pretty easy to wipe everything and start completely fresh.
From there, it will request for you to enter your phone password for verification, and then your phone will be wiped completely clean. Once the process is finished, you will be greeted with the initial welcome screen as if you’re starting up the Z2 Force for the first time.

A new feature introduced in Android 7.0 Nougat was the ability to long press app icons on the home screen to pull up a list of executable shortcuts. Considering the fact that the Moto Z2 Force is running a near-stock version of Android you’ll be able to access these shortcuts without jumping through any hoops.
Each app will feature different options, such as Google Keep, which offers “New audio note”, “New Photo note”, “New list”, or “New note”. Meanwhile, Chrome offers the ability to either open an incognito tab or a new regular tab.
Multi-Window mode is a new addition to Android and it makes its presence known here on the Moto Z2 Force. If you’re watching a YouTube video, but need to respond to an email real quick, you can do so rather easily.
First, you’ll need to open your recent apps, then tap, hold, and drag the app you want at the top of your display to the gray box at the top. Then, once that application is in place, you’ll want to scroll through and find the other app that you want to show and select it. From there, you’ll have two apps open at the same time and can use the middle-bar to resize either one.
If you want to close multi-window mode, simply drag the middle bar all the way up or down, depending upon which application you want to view in full-screen.

Whether you need to get rid of an app you recently installed — or perhaps remove a useless app that came pre-loaded on the phone — deleting or uninstalling unwanted apps on the Galaxy S8 is easy. While any app you install from the Google Play Store can be fully uninstalled, apps pre-installed on the device can only be disabled. Here’s how you do it:
Method 1
Method 2
Like a lot of devices these days, the Moto Z2 Force has its own battery saver mode to keep your device sipping power. There are actually a few modes to keep your phone juiced up and while you shouldn’t be using any of these modes all the time, they could come in handy when you know you’re going to be away from the outlet for an unusually long length of time.

Although many devices have a standard way for to easily see your specific battery percentage, the same can’t be said regarding the Moto Z2 Force. This is due to the near-stock experience that you get, which almost resembles stock Android to the “T”. However, there is a back road you can follow if you still want the battery percentage to appear within the battery icon in your status bar.
This will activate the System UI Tuner, which offers you a few extra options to customize the likes of your Status Bar or Do Not Disturb mode. If you want to add the battery percentage, follow these steps:
It’s obvious that smartphone manufacturers have finally realized that we use our phones as often as we can. However, looking at these displays for extended periods of time does hurt your eyes in the long run, and if you’re looking at your phone in the dark, things can get even worse.
Luckily, Motorola has implemented a new feature known as “Night Display” which will add a warmer tone to your display to make things easier on your eyes. If you want to enable this feature and configure the settings, follow these steps:
From here you can configure when Night Display will automatically start and end, with the options for both being:

There’s no reason your phone’s notifications should ever interrupt a good night’s sleep. While you can always manually set your phone to silent every night (providing you remember), you could also automate this entire process by setting up automatic Do Not Disturb schedules. This will mute your phone, but still allow some high priority notifications to come through (calls from specific contacts for instance). The best part? You’ll never again have to remember to mute your phone before bed. Here’s how you can set it up:
From here, you can choose between always having it on every day, setting specific times and days you want DnD to activate (Automatic rules), and what notifications you would still like to come through (Priority only allows). For instance, you may want to only allow calls from your contacts, your favorite contacts, or repeat callers to come through in the event of an emergency.
Chances are, you love taking pictures with a blurred background, which is also known as “Bokeh”. Well, we’re seeing more and more mobile devices released with cameras that are capable of providing this effect without needing to use another application.
The Moto Z2 Force also falls in this category, as the device launched with a feature known as “Depth Enabled”. This will allow you to focus on a specific object, while leaving the rest of the background blurry, making sure that the center of the photo stands out.
In order to activate this camera mode, here are the steps:
Once enabled, you will be able to see a live preview of what the image will look like before you snap the photo. From there, Motorola has included a “depth editor” photo editor which allows you to perform multiple edits including the following:
This is just one of the coolest new features of the Z2 Force, and is definitely something to tinker with once the device is in your hands.
In case you weren’t aware by now, the Moto Z2 Force features dual 12MP lenses, however, these aren’t the same sensors that are found in the likes of the LG G6. Instead, the Z2 Force features a standard 12MP lens and a 12MP monochrome lens, much like the Huawei P10.
Motorola went as far as to include a Black & White specific mode, which was dubbed “True B&W”. When selected the images you take will show up in black & white, without any post-processing needed to be performed after the picture has been taken.
In order to access True B&W Mode, follow these steps:
Many folks are moving away from taking a compact camera with them on the go, in favor of the cameras packed into their pockets. Back in the day, this wasn’t an option for those who love fine-tuned control over the settings, as they would be left in the dark and had to resort to Instagram or VSCO to edit images.
That’s no longer the case, and Motorola has included a Professional Mode to give users the control they want over the pictures they take. In order to access Professional Mode, follow these steps:
Once selected, you will see options appear on the right-hand side, which include ISO, white balance, and more.
From time to time, you’ll need to zoom in on an object while you’re taking a specific picture. This is especially true if you’re working with one-hand and want to snap a picture really quick before the moment is over. Previously, you were forced to pinch-to-zoom on your display, which usually required two fingers.
However, Motorola has implemented a new way to zoom, which only requires one finger to use (think Snapchat). In order to do so, simply swipe up on the display and zoom bar will appear. From here, you can swipe all the way up to 8X zoom, or back down to make sure you get the best shot.
Sometimes when you’re taking pictures it can be rather annoying to have to try and tap the shutter button on your phone. I know that I’ve thought that I was hitting the shutter button, but instead, changed the focus of the camera and lost the shot that was I was looking for.
Motorola has included the ability to change things up a bit, making it possible for you to snap pictures just by tapping the display.
Something to keep in mind is that if you need to change the focus of your photo, you’ll have to tap and hold the focus icon on your display to move the focus. This could also end up resulting in accidental pictures being taken, so be sure to choose your options wisely. Plus, you can still use the volume down button if you don’t want to worry about either of the previous concerns.
To shoot or record 4K video with the Moto Z2 Force, you just have to open the camera app then do the following:
It’s important to remember that shooting video in 4K UHD will definitely take up more space, so if you opted against picking up a microSD card, it might be worth it to stick to 1080p video.

The Moto Z2 Force features a dual-sensor camera setup for the first time, but there are more hidden features that you may not exactly know about. One such feature is the ability to use your camera to show you more information regarding a specific barcode.
All you’ll need to do is open your camera app, and position the lens over a bar code of your choosing. From there, you will see the barcode appear in a box at the top of your screen, from which you can learn more about the product.
Some products will show the name and information at the top, but if you tap the product number, you’ll be taken to Google to learn more information.
Should you decide to lock down your Moto Z2 Force down with a fingerprint or standard passcord, it’s still possible to keep your device unlocked when you’re home or when it’s on you.
It’s called Smart Lock and this feature will keep your phone unlocked as long as its connected to a Bluetooth device (smartwatch, car stereo, Bluetooth speaker). There’s even an option to keep your phone unlocked while it’s on you. Once the phone detects no movement, it locks itself down.
Here’s how you activate Smart Lock on the Moto Z2 Force:
The Moto Z2 Force includes the ability to use the device as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot. In order to set this up for the first time, you’ll need to follow these steps:
From here, you’ll be able to access the settings for your mobile hotspot, including the specific password, device name, and more. Once everything has been configured, you’ll be able to quickly toggle the mobile hotspot on or off from the notification shade.

There will be times where you want to show your friend something, but that person likes to snoop around other apps on your phone without permission. Luckily, there’s a built-in feature known as “Screen Pinning” which makes sure that the person stays in the app they’re supposed to, without dealing with anything else.
In order to be able to use Screen Pinning, you’ll have to make sure it’s turned on. To turn on Screen Pinning, follow these steps:
Once you’ve turned on Screen Pinning, you’ll need to know how to actually pin the screen you want. In order to so:
It’s something nobody thinks about until it happens, but one of the worst things that could happen to you is losing your smartphone or having it stolen. In the event that your device does go missing, you need to know exactly how to recover your device or erase any personal information stored therein.
Android’s built-in feature — “Android Device Manager” — is the perfect way to track down a lost device, you just need to know where to find it.

When our Moto Z2 Force was booted up for the first time, we noticed something rather strange about the top left-hand corner on the status bar — there was a carrier logo. This logo is rather large and takes up quite a bit of space.
Luckily, there’s an easy method for removing this logo from your status bar, leaving you more room for activities.
The Moto Z2 Force feels pretty snappy out of the box, but things can definitely be turned up a notch. To speed things up and make the UI feel more snappy, you can increase the speed of the animations. But you’ll first need to activate the hidden Developer Options by following these steps:
To speed up animations:
If you’re like me, chances are you have a ton of different notifications ringing through your head throughout the day. However, there are some contacts or apps that deserve a different notification sound or ringtone than others, depending upon the importance. There’s an easy way to switch up those ringtones, and here are the steps:
Once the section is selected, you’ll be presented with a list of pre-loaded notification sounds and ringtones to pick and choose from. If you want to download ringtones of your own, you can check out an app like Zedge or something similar.
Whenever the Moto Z2 Force is powered up, there’s a rather loud and obnoxious jingle that plays, which will definitely upset the librarian if you’re studying. Luckily, there’s a way to disable this sound, and you can access it through these steps:
Once toggled, you’ll no longer have to worry about disrupting everyone around you in case you need to restart your phone for whatever reason.
If you ever run into a problem with your Moto Z2 Force where the device has frozen and you can’t access anything, then you’ll need to know how to force a reboot. In order to do so, simply press and hold the power button and volume down button for a few seconds until you see the screen go black. Once the screen is black, release the buttons and the phone should boot as normal.
