After June 20th (OnePlus 5 announcement), Google will be on the clock to blow everyone’s minds with the Pixel 2 lineup. We’ve seen plenty of rumors already regarding this next lineup of devices, including the possibility of a third device which would be even larger than the Pixel XL.
However, according to David Ruddock from Android Police, that the true successor to the XL, codenamed “muskie”, has been shelved indefinitely. This leaves the base model Pixel 2 (walleye) and the larger Pixel 2 device, which has a codename of “taimen”.
Unfortunately, there’s not much information as to why this device has been removed from Google’s plans, but we won’t be seeing 3 new Pixel devices unveiled this Fall. This will be great for Google as the company has continued to struggle with keeping up with supply demands, and adding a third device would cause even more headaches.
As for what the Pixel 2 ‘taimen’ would bring in tow, a recent leak showed the device passing through Geekbench. The results revealed the device to be powered by the Snapdragon 835 and 4GB of RAM, while including Android O on the software side.
Let us know what you think about this latest report and if you’ll be interested in the larger ‘taimen’ device, even if it has a display size larger than 5.5-inch Pixel XL.
