LG might switch to OLED for the LG V30

0

It seems LG may finally be ready to step into the OLED game for their smartphone business. The Investor reports that the company has ramped up production of OLED displays, with their biggest beneficiary being — you guessed it — LG Electronics.

In fact, the report goes on to name drop the LG V30 as the first LG phone expected to sport the panels.

LG’s switch to an OLED panel should be an overall popular one, though we’re sure a sizable and vocal crowd of LCD zealots are sure to feel otherwise. Samsung has long been lauded as the king of displays in the smartphone world thanks to their Super AMOLED technology, and that’s not for no reason.

It’s natural, then, for LG to want to get in on the fun when they’ve been trying to match Samsung’s display efforts on all fronts. This includes not only the technology they use for their own smartphones, but television panels and those which will be offered to third-party manufacturers, who stand to be the biggest winners in all this as Samsung may finally have some competition, which would, in turn, drive costs down.
