Nintendo has a crap ton of franchises and characters to adapt to mobile games and apps, and it’s no surprise they’re going with their most recent success for the next launch. The Wall Street Journal reports that the company is looking to bring The Legend of Zelda to mobile.
The Legend of Zelda is a decades-long series about a young warrior named Link whose sole interest is seemingly in saving princess Zelda and stopping the man who has set the world afoul, Ganon. Ganon’s usual motive is to take over the Hyrule kingdom, though he can’t fully realize this goal without obtaining an artifact known as the Triforce.
Anyway, Nintendo just released perhaps the best Zelda game of all time in Breath of the Wild for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U. The title has helped the company push their latest console to impressive sales figures in the early going, with many folks buying a Switch just to play it.
And now it’s time to milk that cow on other fronts. We’re not exactly sure what to expect from a mobile version of Zelda, but if Fire Emblem Heroes and Super Mario Run are anything to go by then we know it’ll be a perfect fit for the type of casual gaming we like to do on mobile.
We’re hoping it’s not some silly puzzle game with Zelda characters, but we’re also not expecting a full-blown RPG, either. And considering Nintendo considers the freemium launch of Fire Emblem as an exception and not the rule to their mobile pricing strategy, prepare to pay a pretty penny for another grand adventure in the kingdom of Hyrule.
