Nintendo’s first mobile game featuring everyone’s favorite plumber has been contentious among gamers and non-gamers alike, but that hasn’t stopped the app from being a pretty big success for Nintendo.
App Annie is reporting that during the first three days of being available, it generated nearly $14 million in revenue despite it only being available on iOS devices at this time. The game was downloaded an estimated 37 million times, which suggests that only 4% of those who downloaded the game were willing to fork over the $9.99 price tag to continue playing the game past the first three levels.
Mario’s popularity likely led to such huge download numbers within the first few days, but it will be interesting to see how the game performs once it debuts on Android. So far, Nintendo has refused to comment on when we can expect to see the game available on Android devices, only mentioning next year as the target.
