Today’s been a busy day for Google developers as they have already released the Pixel Launcher onto the Play Store, but that’s not all. The company has also released its official Wallpapers application on the Play Store, and best of all, everyone can download it. Unlike the Pixel Launcher, which requires you to own a Pixel device, the new Wallpapers app works on all Android devices.
This is the same wallpaper picker application that is included in the Pixel and Pixel XL and offers the ability to easily switch and set wallpapers without jumping between a bunch of different settings screens. The Wallpapers app 5 different categories of wallpapers:
- Earth
- Landscapes
- Cityscapes
- Life
- Textures
The app also allows you to view and set wallpapers from your gallery, third-party launcher, or other applications. When viewing a specific category of wallpapers, you can select the option to change the wallpaper every day. However, there is a bit of a catch with this new app. None of the wallpapers within the app are actually stored on your device until they are selected. If you choose to have the wallpaper changed every day, each wallpaper will be downloaded at the appropriate time.
Although the application is available to download for any Android device, the ability to change the wallpaper for both the lock screen and home screen is only available on devices running Android 7.0 Nougat and above. Best of all, the new Wallpapers app is absolutely free. There are no in-app purchases to worry about, just download the app below and enjoy the different options that Google is offering.
