One of the rumors that popped up right before the Google event was something called Google WiFi. Today, they officially announced the new router system. Unlike the OnHub, this new router is actually a system of multiple routers. Instead of one central router that has to reach every corner of your house, a multi-point system uses multiple devices to cover a larger area.
The price for one Google WiFi unit is $129 or you can get three units to spread around your house for $299. Pre-orders open in November and it will ship in December. We don’t know what this means for the OnHub router. Google mentioned it during the event, but there was no word on future models. Google WiFi and OnHub serve different purposes, so they can both exist in Google’s portfolio.
