Apple took to the stage earlier today to announce the brand new iPhone 7, as well as a few other big products. This is the elephant in the room for the mobile world. We always like to compare the new iPhone to the Best Android Phones. The competition is very close this year. Let’s take a look at the competition.

Build Quality

When it comes to 2016’s phones, it’s all about looking and feeling good. Every phone features a prominent dose of metal or glass. HTC and Apple are pioneers in this area. HTC started emphasizing metal unibody construction with the original HTC One’s launch. Apple kicked things off with a partially metal back on the very first iPhone.

LG’s approach is unique: their metal unibody is coated in metallic paint to hide the antenna strips needed to allow proper attenuation through metal. Samsung’s metal is sandwiched between two plates of high-quality glass, similar to the Moto Z’s design. Apple, meanwhile, goes with the tried and true metal unibody approach for the iPhone 7. It’s not much of a departure from previous designs.

Display

Display size and resolution is one area where the Android manufacturers are well ahead of Apple. The iPhone 7 has a 4.7-inch display with less than 1080p resolution. That doesn’t mean the iPhone display looks bad. In fact, many people praise the displays on iPhones. However, Samsung also has a killer display, and you get more pixels, too.

The Samsung Galaxy S7, LG G5, HTC 10, and Moto Z all come in at that same Quad HD resolution, albeit it at slightly different screen sizes. The Moto Z is the biggest at 5.5-inches (nearly a phablet), followed by the G5 at 5.3, HTC 10 at 5.2, and Galaxy S7 at 5.1. The displays on all of these devices are going to look great.

Camera

Camera is where Apple used to clean up in these comparisons. That hasn’t been the case in recent years. Samsung and LG have stood out among the crowd with excellent cameras. The Galaxy S7 has the best camera on the market and the G5 isn’t far behind. HTC and Motorola are further behind, but they still offer nice cameras.

The iPhone has always had a very good camera. Apple talked a lot with fancy made-up words and showed photos that were clearly edited, but there’s no reason to believe the iPhone 7 won’t have a great camera.

Performance

Performance is an area where all devices can differ drastically. Across the board, the Android devices in the chart are using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. Apple has their own A10 processor. It’s hard to compare performance based solely on the processor. RAM plays a big part as well. Once again, the Android devices are the same across the board. The iPhone 7 lacks in RAM, which is something people have complained about for a while.

iOS doesn’t require as much horsepower as Android, but the iPhone has traditionally been slower than top Android phones. Battery life is another performance area where the iPhone has struggled. Apple has skimped out on battery again with the iPhone 7. It’s more than 1,000 mAh smaller than the Galaxy S7 and HTC 10. But hey, at least it’s really thin, right?
