The unknown Sony device now has a name and gets shown off in some new renders

As we get closer to IFA Berlin 2016, we are beginning to see more information regarding an unknown Sony device. Last month, a few “hands-on” pictures showcased a device with the model number of F8331 and featured an all new design which moved away from Sony’s normal taste. Also last month, we saw the same device appear on GeekBench bringing with it some flagships specs, leading us to believe that Sony is preparing to launch at least one new device at IFA.

This time around, we have a series of CAD renders which give us an idea as to what the upcoming Xperia device will be measured in at.

According to @onleaks, the device measures in at 146.4 x 71.9 x 8.1mm and is codenamed the Sony Xperia XR. Apparently there will be another moniker once the device is officially announced, but we’ll have to work with what we have so far. To recap, the device should include the following specs, if the GeekBench results are indeed for this device:

  • 5.1-inch 1080×1920 Display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 Processor
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32GB Storage
  • 21MP rear-facing camera
  • 12MP front-facing camera
  • Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

As mentioned previously, this new Sony device deviates from the company’s “normal” design queues, with rounded edges and flat edges at the top and bottom. Additionally, we can see that the Xperia XR features USB Type-C, a first for Sony, as well as a dual-flash camera on the rear of the device. The dual-flash module is also new to Sony and would be a welcome addition.

IFA Berlin 2016 is expected to get started in just a few weeks, but as with most things, we can expect to see more information about this device appear in the days leading up to the event. Let us know what you think about this upcoming device from Sony in the comment below.
