You can help design ZTE’s next smartphone

0

ZTE doesn’t have a whole lot of trouble designing great smartphones these days, but the company somehow feels it can do better. In a very cool initiative, ZTE has announced Project CSX, a crowd-sourced smartphone for 2017 that will be shaped by your ideas.

ZTE will accept design and feature ideas from any fan willing to throw their ideas out there, and that idea could end up as part of the phone once it’s all said and done. Those with winning ideas will be treated to prizes such as cash, early access to the phone, and even trips to CES.

Of course, the company likely won’t be able to facilitate a request like embedding an alien laser beam or display that can fold out into a full-fledged monitor, but as long as your idea is plausible for 2017 technology and doesn’t drive the cost of the phone up by a metric crap ton, you have a chance to influence its outcome.

To submit feature ideas, you must sign up for ZTE’s Z-Community forums and submit your idea. Here are just a few of the good ones already coming in:

  • Dual-boot
  • E-Ink Back
  • An integrated bottle opener
  • Built-in LED projector
  • Omni-direction speakers

To be honest, a lot of the current submissions are all very generic, mild, and vanilla right now. Heck, some people just want proper customer support. But that’s all the more reason to throw your idea into the hat in hopes that ZTE will notice. Let us know what you’d want to see in their next smartphone.
