‘Clash of Clans’ maker has been purchased for a whopping $10 billion

Mobile games are huge money makers these days. Games like Candy Crush and Mobile Strike are making so much money that they can hire celebrities to star in Super Bowl commercials. These games are usually free to download, but the money is made with in-app purchases. So how much could one of these popular games be worth? How does $10 billion sound?

Tencent has purchased Supercell, the company behind the mega popular Clash of Clans game. The deal is valued at a staggering $10.2 billion. Supercell grossed $1.35 billion in 2015. Tencent now owns two of the most popular games on the planet. Recently, they purchased the makers of League of Legends, another free to download game.

Gone are the days when mobile games sold for $0.99. In-app purchases are where the money comes from. These deals are proof of how much money can be made if you get the user’s foot in the door with a free download. How much money have you spent on games like Clash of Clans?
