Xiaomi equips a $105 phone with a Snapdragon 430, fingerprint sensor, 4,100 mAh battery

We know that components for mid-range devices are getting cheaper, but you probably didn’t know that you can now get a phone with a 5-inch 720p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, 13MP main camera with an f2.0 aperture and phase detection auto-focus, 5MP front-facing camera, fingerprint sensor and a 4,100 mAh battery – all for $105.

The budget-friendly device we’re talking about is the new Xiaomi Redmi 3S. Based on its specs, the Redmi 3S is in the exact same category as the Honor 5X, but Xiaomi’s asking price is nearly half of what Honor is charging for its phone. Sure, the Honor 5X has a larger 5.5-inch 1080p display, but Xiaomi does give you the option to pay an extra $30 to get an additional gig of RAM and pump the phone’s internal storage up to 32GB. And if you ask us, the Redmi 3S looks a lot better than the Honor 5X.

For now, the Xiaomi Redmi 3S is only available in China, selling for 699 Yuan (2GB RAM, 16GB storage) and 899 Yuan (3GB RAM, 32GB storage), but we’ll likely the phone show up in India and other Asian markets within the next month or two. If you’re hoping to pick up the phone in the US or Europe, you’ll likely need to turn to a third-party importer since Xiaomi doesn’t officially operate in those markets. This will bump the price up a bit, but you should still be able to add the Xiaomi Redmi 3S to your smartphone collection for less than $200.
