The Moto G4 Plus camera is on par with the Nexus 6P and iPhone 6S Plus, says DxOMark

The Moto G4 Plus is the first in the series with some serious chops in the camera department. Its 16-megapixel camera has an aperture of f/2.0 and a pretty large sensor size, which means it can capture a lot of light and detail. It also has hybrid phase detection + laser autofocus for improved and faster focusing.

As nice as it sounds on paper, we have to get a look at photos taken with the sensor itself to judge its worth. We can’t do that ourselves just yet, but DxOMark has injected us with a lot of promise in the meantime: they’ve scored the device’s camera 84 out of 100.

To compare, this score is in line with devices like the Nexus 6P, the iPhone 6S Plus, and the Moto DROID Turbo 2, all of which can hold their own for everyday shooting. DxOMark went into a bit more detail about their findings, noting that it can handle HDR quite nicely (albeit a bit inconsistently), it has good color reproduction, great autofocusing capabilities and the ability to take proper “extreme” lowlight shots.

Note that none of this applies to the 13-megapixel camera sensor in the Moto G4, the lesser model of the two. DxOMark has a full rundown on their Moto G4 camera review right here, so be sure to give it a viewing if you’re curious.
