Multitasking is one of the things that makes Android so great. It’s easy to switch between apps and run multiple apps in the background. The multitasking menu has changed a lot over the years. Currently, the recent apps are displayed in a rolodex-like scrollable list. It works pretty well, but there is definitely room for improvement.
Pintasking takes the idea of Facebook’s chat heads and uses it for multitasking. Any app can be pinned to the side of the screen for quick access. You can also switch the previous app with a tap, similar to ALT-TAB on Windows. If that’s not enough for you, Pintasking can also open links on the side like Link Bubble.
There are two ways to pin apps: from the notification shade or with a custom “Swipe Pade” gesture. The Swipe Pad gesture allows you to define a certain area in the status bar that can be pulled down to pin the current app. In Pro Mode, you can pin as many apps as you can fit on the screen, but in the free mode, you’re limited to just two. Switching between apps with the bubbles is quick and seamless. It uses the same animation that you see from the Recent Apps menu.
Pintasking’s browser extension allows you to pin links to the side of the screen until you’re ready to view them. All you have to do is choose Pintasking as your default browser and choose a favorite browser. When you tap on a link, Pintasking will pin your browser to the screen. Every subsequent link will be added to the bubble. Once you tap on the browser bubble all the links will open. It’s a nice way to save things to view later without leaving your current task.
