Motorola XT1650 benchmark shows Snapdragon 820 and 4GB RAM, could be Moto X 2016

Last year’s Motorola Moto X Pure Edition was one of our favorite devices (those front facing speakers can’t be beat), suffice to say we’re excited to see what Motorola introduces for this year’s followup. While there have been a few sightings in the wild, we still don’t know what Motorola (or Lenovo, rather) has planned in terms of hardware specs. Will they skimp out in an attempt at competing with other Android flagships with lower pricing? Or will they go balls to the wall and match pound-for-pound with top notch hardware? A new benchmark could help shed some light on that.

Uploaded on April 20th, the Geekbench benchmark is showing a Motorola device going by the model number “XT1650.” While it could be anything, the bench is reporting a Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB of RAM. It’s not going to outdo any flagships that have launched this year, but at least it’s on par with devices like the Samsung Galaxy S7 or HTC 10. The benchmark still shows the phone running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, which makes sense given Android N still has a ways to go before the final version is released.

Current rumors point toward a June 9th launch, a full 3 months ahead of the phone’s usual September launch date. There’s even been talk of the phone coming in 2 different variants, the regular one seen in this bench and a supercharged model with a 2.15GHz CPU. Of course, nothing has been confirmed. We’d recommend taking all rumors — including benchmarks like these — with fairly big helping of salt for now.
