Miitomo launches in the US March 31st

Nintendo Miitomo — the company’s first smartphone app — now has a launch date in the US. The company will start letting folks in March 31st. This comes just shortly after a brief period of exclusivity in Nintendo’s hometown of Japan.

Miitomo is a social app where you create a Mii character to use as your avatar and chat with other folks. Conversations are driven by questions that you send to another friend’s Mii character. You can answer those questions and they’ll show up on your profile when other friends are looking at you.

The idea is to get friends talking about interesting stuff in a fun way. Friends could even learn something they didn’t know about you. Of course, that’s reliant on your willingness to answer questions, so be sure not to input any information you don’t want anyone to know.

After creating your Mii character for the first time, you’ll be able to add existing friends who also have Miitomo by linking your Facebook and Twitter accounts, or you can add them manually if you don’t have the means to do that (or if your friends don’t have those social networks linked or don’t use them). We’ll be dishing the Google Play link out for you to download once March 31st arrives so be on the lookout!
