When it comes to build quality, the Galaxy S7 is easily one of the most solid feeling Android devices out there. Samsung really outdid themselves this year, mixing not only premium build materials, but going the extra mile by waterproofing the phone with IP68 (ingress protection) rating. That means the Galaxy S7 is officially capable of surviving up to 30 minutes fully submerged in 1 meter of water and there have been no shortage of YouTube videos putting Samsung’s claims to the test.
Earlier today, we saw a stress test where the phone was frozen inside a bowl of ice and unsurprisingly enough, the phone worked fine after the fact (I once left a phone in a freezer over night and it lived to tell the tale). Another video is also making the rounds, coming to us from YouTuber Max Lee.
In what can only be described as a torture test, Lee decides to see what happens when the Galaxy S7 undergoes 45-minute wash cycle. Now, aside from the swishing and swashing going on, you’d think the heat of water and use of detergent would break at least one of the seals on the device — not so. The Galaxy S7 emerges unscathed, shinier than ever.
We don’t recommend trying this at home, but at least you can rest easy knowing that if you ever left your Galaxy S7 in the wash, it should come out working good as new. How many smartphones can say the same?
