Earlier this week, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge were officially announced. Now that we’re a couple days out from the big event, we’re getting our hands on some of the companion accessories. One of the coolest accessories Samsung has for the Galaxy S7 is a battery case that charges the phone wirelessly. It’s pretty awesome.
The Backpack case may look like a typical battery case, but it has a few tricks up its sleeve. First, the physical size is pretty impressive for a battery case. It adds minimal width and height to the phone. All of the extra battery is in the thickness of the case. This makes the phone really easy to hold, even with the Backpack attached.
You might be wondering how the Backpack doesn’t add much extra height to the phone. Most battery cases have to connect to the phone’s charging port, which adds a chin to the bottom of the device. The Backpack is special in that it uses wireless charging to charge the Galaxy S7. This is an awesome feature because it makes the Backpack act like a regular case. All you have to do is slap it on the phone and you’re charging.
Another benefit of the wireless charging is you get unfettered access to the phone’s microUSB charging port and headphone jack. The bottom of the phone is completely uncovered. The Backpack charges via microUSB on the top. Also on the top is a button that, when pressed, shows the battery level of the case with four LEDs. Another LED is on the side of the case to show when the case is fully charged.
The Backpack adds an extra 3,400 mAh to the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge. Combined, that gives you 6,400 mAh for the Galaxy S7 and a whopping 7,000 mAh for the Galaxy S7 Edge. More than enough to get through a couple of days. The Backpack will be available in mid-March for around $90. Do you plan on picking one of these cool battery cases up?
