Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge officially announced

0

Samsung has officially revealed the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. As all the rumors suggested, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge aren’t huge leaps forward compared to yesteryear’s counterparts, but they do refine an experience that’s already great.

The Galaxy S7 is a 5.1-inch device that looks and feels nicer than the Galaxy S6. That’s thanks largely to its new ergonomic curves in the rear glass, and more refined machinery for the metal edges. The Galaxy S7 Edge is a bigger version of that (its display is 5.5 inches) except the display has a curve, too.

They both feature a new always-on display that lets you check up on notifications, calendar updates and time and weather without having to turn it on. The S7 Edge gets a bonus feature with Edge Display, of course, which is now wider and is opened up for third-party developers to create apps for.

The devices are more powerful (thanks to Exynos 8890 and Snapdragon 820 chipsets, and 4GB of RAM) and last longer (thanks to 3,000mAh and 3,600mAh batteries in the S7 and S7 Edge, respectively). They also take better photos with a 12MP camera that features bigger pixels and dual-pixel focus technology that helps you take great photos in low-light situations.

Two of the things we’re happiest to hear about are the return of water resistance (IP68) and a microSD slot for expanding functionality. Those two are a testament to Samsung’s work in continued refinement of their new premium design and their ability to bring back the features that folks valued on older phones.

Accessories confirmed for the devices are battery cases for those days where you need it to go an extra mile, as well as fast wireless charging pads (though you can still hook it up to a fast charging microUSB cable if you’d rather go the traditional route).

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge launch worldwide on March 11th, with pre-sale opportunities starting today. Read ahead for the full specs.
