Oculus has finally confirmed the day that you’ll be able to pre-order the consumer version of their virtual reality headset. That date is January 6th, with a countdown timer on their website serving as a nice reminder in case you can’t believe it. The floodgates should open promptly at 11am Eastern, and Oculus says they’ll be offering it on a global basis.
Unfortunately that’s all the official news we’ll get about the device’s launch right now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t ponder some rumors. One thing to note is that the price is looking to be as low as $350, but could stretch a bit higher than that. We’d say $400 is a good baseline price to think about if you’re wondering how much to set aside.
We also know that the actual release date will happen sometime within the first 3 months of 2016. Our hope is that it won’t take much longer than February, but their original estimation means they have until March 31st to get this thing out of the door. Or perhaps they’ll be crazy enough to surprise us with news that they’ll start shipping this week — that’s something we’ll have to wait and see about.
