Moto X (2nd Gen) Pure Edition now receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow
Motorola need only break their own record after being the first OEM out the gate with Lollipop on the Moto X 2nd Gen last year. They were so fast, they even managed to push the update ahead of Google’s own Nexus devices. This year… not so much. But understandably so. Motorola’s US division has seen better days since Lenovo purchased them last year, with layoffs that appear to have negatively impacted their ability to update the software on some of their handsets.
In either case, they did get around to updating their 2014 flagship to Marshmallow, albeit a little slower than expected. Rolling out to the Motorola Moto X 2014 Pure Edition is Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Reports are rolling in everywhere from users in Canada to as far as Finland, so it’s fair to assume the update is more broad than Brazil who saw the update last month. At around 884MB, it’s no small update either. We recommend performing a factory reset after updating (it’s usually what we do after major software updates like this, but in no way mandatory).
To see if the update is available on your device, head over to your Settings app then select About Phone > System updates to check for it manually. If not, sit tight and wait to be prompted in the coming days. Carrier branded models outside the US shouldn’t be too far behind (with the exception of Verizon which was left out of their initial announcement). We’ll keep an eye out for ya.
