Oppo has quietly thrown their R7 Plus smartphone up for pre-order over at their US online store. It went up for $499.99, which is the price tag they’re asking for on a device that features a 6-inch 1080p display, a 1.5GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 615 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 13 megapixel camera capable of 4K video and a ridiculous 4,100mAh battery.
The phone seems to be a decent success early on, with the company already sold out of pre-order units in just over a day. Raging popularity or embarrassingly thin inventory? Tough to say, but we aren’t sure we’d opt for this over other more affordable options anyway.
Take the Nexus 6 for instance, which consistently goes on sale at very low prices. $350 for that piece of hardware is nothing to sneeze at. And this year’s Moto X will start at just $399.99 with no contract, and it’s superior to the Oppo R7 Plus in all areas save for battery capacity.
That’s not to say there’s no reason not to check this phone out, especially if you enjoy Oppo’s ColorOS on top of Android. If you want one then be sure to keep your eye on Oppo’s storefront for more stock to flow back in, and for those who already got their order in you can expect your shipment to arrive by the end of the month.
