The ZTE Nubia Z9 was announced this morning, and while we don’t often get excited for a ZTE launch this one woke us up quite effectively. The first thing you’ll notice is that the device has an insanely thin bezel, with ZTE claiming they were able to get it down to just 0.8mm on the left and right edges.
Those edges are also more than just edges, as they’re outfitted with ZTE’s FiT feature, which stands for Frame Interaction Technology. It’ll allow you to perform a number of gestures by stroking the left or right bezel with your fingers, such as switching between apps, adjusting brightness or launching the camera. You can see an illustration of some of those gestures in the graphic above.
The best part about all this is that the device doesn’t impress on the back of a cool gimmick alone — it also has some pretty baller hardware beneath its chassis. Here’s what you can expect in that regard (note that there are two different versions that differ by RAM and internal storage):
- 5.2-inch 1080p display with 2.5D curved glass
- Octa-core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810
- 3GB RAM and 32GB storage for Classic, 4GB RAM and 32GB storage for Elite
- 16MP Sony IMX234 camera sensor with optical image stabilization, 8MP front sensor
- Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC and MHL 3.0
- Nubia UI 3.0 and Android 5.0 Lollipop
- 2,900mAh battery
- 147.38 x 68.34 x 8.94mm
The device lands first in China sometime soon, as pre-sales have already commenced. You’ll be able to snap it up for 3999 Yuan for the Classic version or 449 Yuan for the Elite version, though if you’re importing you may have to incur additional costs to make that happen. Truth be told we wouldn’t mind seeing this thing spread to other regions before too long.
That is thin.
T-Mobile needs to bring these Chinese super phones to America so they can take my money.
Xiaomi’s Mi Note Pro wont work on Tmo (only 2g)
Any idea for this?
..If anyone has balls big enough to get phones like this to the states it Tmo…

This should help with people buying phones. The radios Tmo use are here.
Exactly. It seems they have better Android phones in this size range than we do in the US.
looks alot like iphone 4 or 5, with thinner bezels. Nice specs. Would be afriad of support for updates or lack of with a brand that isnt truely “here” in US.
Wow, another phone with thin side bezel but huge “chin” and “forehead”.. How about reducing those?
I can’t tell if you’re trolling or serious. You know these phones are touchscreen right? You know you have to hold them, right? Also you know that it’s a PHONE, right? Meaning it needs to have a microphone and speaker that goes over your ear. You just prefer one giant screen?
Does anyone ever call you?
Yes, I am aware that they need a place to put the camera, mic, speakers and everything else but I would rather they make it thicker and put everything behind the screen as much as possible. My pants aren’t painted on so an extra couple mm will still slide into my pocket.
S6 Edge
Nope.. it can do more than the S6 as it can use both edges to do cool shizz, not only 1 edge that the “dual edged” S6 can. Ha ha. The S6 failed heavily in this department by marketing a “dual edge” device that can only use 1 edge at a time.
I, personally, do not like that look at all. I need my side bezels.
G4 g4
Asia gets all the good stuff. : /
So wait.. these cats are able to use BOTH EDGES to do cool things while the S6 “edge” can only use 1 edge at a time. Bwa haa ha ha. Classic.
I think bezeless edges are awesome personally.
