Lollipop for the LG G3 and G2 on T-Mobile enters carrier testing phase, rollout imminent

lg g3 lollipop coming soon

If you’ve been keeping up with T-Mobile’s recently launched Software Updates page, you may have noticed some new activity. According to T-Mobile, the LG G3 and LG G2 should expect Android 5.0 Lollipop hitting their devices relatively soon. Both of the devices have officially left the “Manufacturer Development” stage and into the “T-Mobile Testing” phase for the major software update.

T-Mobile’s Software Updates page is a handy tool for keeping up to date with software updates for a variety of recently launched Android flagships, with the carrier defining their testing phase as the following:

“During this stage, the device will go through T-Mobile certification process testing to make sure you get the best quality software possible.”

While this will no doubt come as welcomed news to LG G3 (and G2) owners, we should note that the AT&T’s LG G3 received Lollipop nearly 6 weeks ago (Sprint’s a few days later), where the Korean model saw it all the way back in November. Needless to say, it’s been a long time coming. We’ve seen reports of the update actually lagging up the LG G3 more than usual, so you may want to consider factory resetting after updating to start fresh.

That being said, keep an eye for any incoming updates and feel free to drop us a line at [email protected] if you see anything pop up. Cheers.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. The un upgrade

  2. It’s about damn time.

  3. This is the one thing that I find annoying about T-Mobile right now. But you can’t win em all. I still LOVE T-MOBILE!

  4. I hope it improves battery life. I have a G2 and it is so inconsistent.

    1. Lollipop *improve* battery life??? What are you smoking???

    2. Vasectomy,

I have an G2 as well and from Jellybean to KitKat it is night and day battery life. I’m pulling normally 5 hours of on screen time with everything enabled.

      I’m on 20y with the D800

        1. Come on Chris, the software version (D80020y)

          1. Ahhhhhh.. So you’re running LG Lollipop? How is the speed and all that? Any weird bugs or issues (my Verizon G2 had really weird GPS and Bluetooth problems).

          2. Nope, still on KitKat, 4.4.2 but I was telling scrotum repair that the battery life on KitKat was 100% better on KitKat than it was on Jellybean.

To be honest, I’m not looking forward to Lollipop, not if the battery life is going to take a major hit

          3. From what I hear, things got really bad for the G3 on Lollipop :/

          4. That’s what I’ve heard. Samsung devices seen better, but not LG

  5. I check this page every hour for my Z3…so much for February!!!!

  6. Bout time!

  7. I don’t believe Verizon has their lollipop ready either.

    1. Nope, not for the G3 or in my case G2. I know there are builds out there that someone pulled off a server, but it’s a complicated root install and my G2 is very finicky, so here I am waiting for Verizon to get their act together and release already.

  8. Guess LG and T-mo forgot all about the original G-flex. I’m guessing lollipop will never see the light of day on a future upgrade…sucks

  9. where is my gs4 update?

  10. I like how the article does not even mention anything about Verizon. I mean, why waste time and effort really to write about something that will never happen…?

  11. Took long enough. I wonder if its 5.0.2 for the G3

  12. Took em long enough but honestly considering what I’ve seen and heard about other carriers that’s updated to Android L, it may make it worth waiting for the G3. Let’s hope all of the bugs are gone with this one.

  13. once there is a flashable zip for twrp im all game. bring it tmobile but dont make it impossible!
