The Sapphire Blue Back Panel on the R1x

You may remember an attractive device from Oppo back in January called the Oppo R1C. It had a gorgeous sapphire glass back and nice mid-range specs, but it was only available in China. Today Oppo has announced the device will be available to the rest of the world in April, but it will be called the Oppo R1x.

The R1C and R1x are essentially identical. They feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 chipset, which is a 64-bit octa-core configuration clocked at 1.5GHz. You’ll also find a 5-inch 720p display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage with microSD expansion up to 128GB, a 13 megapixel Sony camera sensor coupled with a 5 megapixel front sensor and a 2,420mAh battery.

The big selling point of this device is the aforementioned sapphire glass back and slim profile. Sapphire glass is an extremely durable material. Oppo says you can see your reflection in the back from nearly all angles. The R1x also comes in at only 6.5mm thick, making it a very slick-looking device. You’ll be able to buy one in April for around $400 in white and blue.

Ever since I flipped open my first phone I've been obsessed with the devices. I've dabbled in other platforms, but Android is where I feel most at home.

    1. I love you for this ^^

  2. Not a bad price for a mid-range phone all things considered.

    1. What’s the proper term for a device that fits nicely between mid-range and flagship? That’s where this belongs.

      1. a step child?

      2. It sticks up pretty well against the nexus 5 I guess. A good price for a flag-range mid-ship phone.

      3. Sub-flagship?

  3. The back of this looks like a Sony xperia.

  4. “Rest of the world” does that include USA?

    1. No. Rest of the world is usually how some Americans describe everyone except them sucking at not having a high enough GDP, powerful enough military, not being willing to intervene worldwide to “save the planet” etc. etc. So it probably won’t include the US, no.

      1. U-S-A… U-S-A… U-S-A… U-S-A… N-S-A…

        1. Waaaar-faaare… Uuunn-reeest… Deee-struction… Corporaaa-tocracy…

    2. I’ve reached out to Oppo to confirm US availability and radio compatibility. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear back.

  5. LTE support?

  6. So it’s just pretty? I thought Sapphire back meant Sapphire Crystal . Lame

    1. “The big selling point of this device is the aforementioned sapphire glass back” Looks like you failed reading for the day.

      1. There’s no mention about the hardness, quality, strength, scratch resistance, etc. Only “…Sapphire glass is an extremely durable material. Oppo says you can see your reflection in the back from nearly all angles. …” Hence my ‘pretty’ comment because the manufacturer offers no details. If it’s as good as Apple’s camera lens Sapphire, it sucks.

  7. Like the capacitive buttons, should have decent battery life w/the 720p display. Would definitely wait for Root/ROMs/aftermarket development before jumping in.

  8. Capacitive button needs to be able to choose which side the back button sits… I hate it being on the right side =/
