The folks behind the Big Android BBQ that goes down in Texas every fall have announced a great new event for those who prefer to chow down on good food during the Spring months. It’s the Big Android Meat and Greet, and this one will take place April 4th out in the United States’ capital, Washington D.C.

Here’s the skinny on tickets and happenings:

  • The Code Kitchen portion of the event — which is a mid-day mingling of developers and experts to help people get a better handle on developing for Android — is absolutely free as long as you register right here. The Code Kitchen takes place at the USPTO’s Madison Auditorium on 600 Dulany Street in Alexandria, VA. It begins at 9AM, goes through 4PM and lunch is served in between.
  • The BBQ portion of the event will cost you $75 and begins at 4:30PM and goes through 6PM, after which you’ll embark on a nice riverboat to check out the Cherry Blossom festival. The boat will be loaded up with snacks and an open bar, and you’ll return around 10PM.
  • Need a hotel? They’ve teamed up with The Westin Alexandria to offer discounted rooms, though you’re obviously free to choose your own resting grounds.

So, a maximum of $75 for a day full of education, food, fun and possibly some drunken moments on a riverboat cruise — sounds like a great time to me. If it’s anything like the Big Android BBQ has been for the past few years then you’re definitely in for a treat. You can head to the event’s website to learn more, and if you decide you want in then this handy EventBrite page is waiting for your details.

  1. No offense, but BBQ in DC? I certainly hope they get a cook in from N Carolina, Missouri, Texas, or Tennessee. Any of the Big 4 will do as all of them bring something unique to the table.

    1. Ray Walters, the BABBQ chef, will be providing the food. He’s from Texas. I’ve had his food half a dozen times over the years and it’s glorious.

      1. You said Texas… Instant cred. :D

Ah… he’s the guy who does the Bog Android BBQ. His stuff is pretty good. And for the people up there, well, he’ll be a god. A GOD I TELL YOU!

        ~ahem~ Sorry

  2. I’ll be there! Hopefully a few other Phandroid staffers show up too! (Steve, Kevin, and Rob are all semi local!).

    1. I’ll be there. Really looking forward to it.
