Yes, folks, Acer is still in the smartphone business and they have two new phones to show off at this year’s CES. The company has announced the Acer Liquid Jade S and the Acer Liquid Z410 4G.
The former? An affordable high-end 4G LTE device that’ll feature a 64-bit MediaTek octa-core Cortex-A53 chipset clocked at 1.5GHz, a 5-inch display and category 4 LTE. It boasts a 13 megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture on the rear and a 5 megapixel selfie machine on the front, and despite coming to market with KitKat it is expected to receive Lollipop at some point later this year.
The Acer Liquid Z410 4G doesn’t sound quite as impressive on paper if we’re going by the display alone. This one bumps the size down to 4.5 inches, a stat line that wouldn’t be all that concerning if not for its qHD (960 x 540) resolution. Processing power is delegated to a quad-core chipset on this one, though it still shares the same 64-bit qualities as its more powerful counterpart. It also comes up well short of the Jade S in terms of camera with just a 5 megapixel camera on the rear and a 2 megapixel shooter on the front.
The discrepancies between the two are immediately explained by their price tags — €299 and €129 for the Acer Liquid Jade S and the Liquid Z410, respectively. Their landing dates? By the end of January, says Acer, though the devices won’t be headed far outside of the EMEA market (Europe, the Middle East and Africa). We suppose there are other affordable smartphones that are more widely available that you could opt for if you’re in the market for one.
No US market?!?! Why
