PSA: Some people have $20 Google Play Store credit waiting for them inside the Chromecast app

Chromecast offers

If you own a Google Chromecast, now might be a good time to check out some of the in-app offers available to you. What’s that? You didn’t know the Chromecast app was hiding offers specifically catered to owners, some reaching $25 in free Google Play Store credit? Well, you do now.

Whether or not you find actual Google Play Store credit (or just other mostly “meh” offers) depends largely when you purchased your Chromecast. Of course, checking is easy and just might be worth spending a few seconds to check.

Chromecast check for offers

Simply open up (or download) the Chromecast from the Google Play Store here, then on the Devices page, select your Chromecast. Wait for the app to connect and once it shows a bunch of miscellaneous info related to your Chromecast, click the 3-dot menu in the upper right hand corner and select “Check for offers.” From there you’ll be taken to your browser where you’ll see a list of currently available offers.

If you’re really lucky, you’ll have Google Play Store credit waiting for you. Good luck!

  1. Got the X-MEN/DramaFever/EPIX/Sesame Street/HULU & 90-Day GOOGLE PLAY MUSIC offers.
As w/all previous GPM ALL ACCESS offers,it’s not redeemable for those who are already subscribed.
Don’t be a Grinch GOOGLE,show some luv to the early adopters.

    1. Exactly what I got as well so meh nothing there to brag about.

      1. I appreciate the offers, but,the one that would be cool is a temporary break from the monthly GPM All-Access bill,or an equivalent credit in GOOGLE WALLET.

  2. I just bought one last night and I didn’t get the credit :(

  3. Had Chromecast for a good while now…. Nothing….

  4. Best Buy is selling the Chromecast for 29.99 & saying you get $20 in Play Store credits.
Costco is selling it for $34.99 & saying you get a $10 & a $15 Play Store credit totalling $25 in Play Store credits.
What I want to know is if I can buy the $29.99 one at Best Buy and get the $25 on credits that Costco is showing.
    Any ideas

    1. I got an idea…quit being so damn cheap.

      1. Oh shut it. People are pinching pennies more than ever, because they have to, thanks to greedy corps pinching people more than ever.

      2. I’m disabled and have five kids. The only time I can spend on myself is when I can find an amazing deal, otherwise my family needs any spare money it can use.

        1. No doubt, then, that you get SSI and SSI for your kids, and wifey gets In Home Support to take care of you. You people make more money than folk who work 40 hours a week.

          1. Omfg! Mewikime, are you reading from a Fox news post or the RNC website?
Yes I receive disability and it is dispersed between myself and my wife and children. I receive approximately half of what I earned while still able to work. We get less money each month than our expenses are. If it weren’t for family and a very forgiving landlord we would have been homeless long ago.
I could continue, but the use of terms like “You people…” are part of a dangerous journey into masked bigotry and hate speak.

  5. A lot of people are not getting the $20 offer that should be getting it (myself included).

There is a thread on Google’s support forum that deals with this and a form to submit:

    1. Nor should everyone get the offer.. Be lucky to get what you get. I got $15 bucks. Am I gonna whine for the other $5? No. I am happy to get something. The problem with people like you and others, is you always expect something because someone else got it. Boo freakin Hoo.. Learn to live with what you have and stop expecting everyone to give you something all the time.

      1. The problem with people like you is they talk out of their rear. You obviously can’t read.

      2. coming from a guy who got 15, this holds much less weight to the people who got 0. lol

      3. It would really help if you clarified who you are speaking about.

    2. I bought mine on the 8th (during the 7th – 21st promo), and it took a week before the credit appeared for me. I was ready to contact their support (it says to wait up to a week for offers to appear), but then it showed up. It looked like a lot of the people posting on that thread were not waiting the 1 week period.

  6. Have had two Chromecasts since Day One. No play store credit (not expected) was present, but all the rest are there. I only bothered to redeem the “free HD x-men movie”, though I’ll probably never watch it again, unlike Elf.

    1. Not watching X-Men again but watching Elf. I like the Will Ferrell a bit more than the average person but I’ll be damned if I say I like his movies more than one of the X-Men movies.

      1. *Shrug*

Holiday movies just tend to get watched more than action flicks. I think I’ve seen Elf 3 or 4 times, but the X-Men movies only once.

  7. Bought mine a couple months ago. Just decided to fire it up and it gave me a $20.00 store credit.

  8. You guys rock. Just redeemed $20 play store credit and got X-men (in HD) for free! Thank you.

  9. 2 chromecasters and same offers. Took the Xmen freebie movie but don’t care for music play or other offers.

  10. Whole bunch of offers. I took the 90 days unlimited google music access.

  11. Hell’s Yeah.. $15 in credit, Free X-Men in HD.. Thank You Satan Claws came early!!

  12. I bought mine day one, and just got the xmen movie I’ll probably never watch, but I’m not upset. I originally got 3 months of Netflix too. I think what’s confusing people, is they are using this for 2 different things. 1)to redeem offers that are advertised discounts before people buy and 2) bonus stuff for being nice/introductory discounts. Also the chromecast technically retails for $35, but at least 50% off the time since it went on sale, it’s discounted or bundled with a deal. It’s a great strategy if someone is desperate they pay full price with a slight 5-15$ surcharge essentially. But if you can wait you pick them up for next to nothing while tying you to a service provider. I wouldn’t be surprised if when a gen 2 comes out (I don’t expect it sooner than a year) if gen 1s started getting included for free to$5 with hulu/Netflix

  13. Hellz yeah! Two chromecasts and both had $20 credits.

  14. this almost seems a ephermal and ludicricious offer

  15. The folks at phandroid and google are the real MVP

  16. I bought 3 chrome cast devices and got 3 copies of xmen, anyone want 2 copies ?

    1. Sure I don’t mind :)
