We knew Motorola was planning to roll out Android 5.0 Lollipop for the first generation Motorola Moto G (2013) sometime soon after an update to Motorola Update Services app hinted as much. It seems the rollout may already be underway as a user on XDA posted yesterday evening that he received the update prompt on his Moto G XT1033 (the original model with the 4.5-inch display and dual SIM) in India.

The software version shown is 220.21.16.en.03 and officially marks the first gen Moto G as one of the most affordable handsets on the planet to run the absolute latest Android firmware. But before you get too excited, sit tight. This is likely a soak test although we expect the rollout to hit more regions in the coming days or weeks. 1. My friend’s Moto X Pure Edition JUST received Lollipop a few days ago. I don’t get. I’ve had it on my exact same model for weeks now.

      1. It’s probably Santa screwing with you for leaving the Z3v off your top five phones list.

        1. It’s the Verizon version of the phone. That alone makes it fall outside of the top 5 phones, IMO.

          1. Ah well I guess being on the best coverage network gets Ya off the list then. Plus the Z3v doesn’t have the lanyard hole that compromises waterproofness

    2. What carrier?

      1. Its unbranded.. its the XT1092 (europe)

  2. C’mon Google! My Nexus 7 has yet to receive this update but my kids Moto G is getting it already?

    1. Looks like I’m not the only one

    2. My Nexus 7 2013 hasn’t yet either.

    3. Make your next device a Motorola device.

  3. Now they just need to roll it out to the rest of us with 2nd Gen Moto G’s. Anytime Moto,…

  4. So glad this is my phone can’t wait!! But I’m sure Verizon will l take there slow sweet time rolling it out…

    1. Yeah especially since the xt1028 is the worst possible model to have of the moto g.

  5. It would be so cool if Motorola came out with essentially a new nexus 7 but without Nexus branding. Around $200 w a snapdragon 610 2 GB ram full HD display front facing speakers and great build quality. I’d buy one.

  6. Install Android 5.0 Lollipop on Moto G 2013 XT1033 using this method.
