Looking for a new smartphone that supports HD Voice? The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini might not be the most exciting device out there, but if you want the super crisp voice calls over AT&T’s 4G LTE network then this is your latest option. It’ll run you $50 on a new two-year contract, though you could always opt to buy it outright either traditionally ($369.99) or AT&T Next (as little as $14.23 cents for the 18 month upgrade option or $18.50 for the 12 month upgrade option).
It features a 4.3-inch 960 x 540 display, an 8 megapixel rear camera with a 1.9 megapixel front camera, a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8930 dual-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot, and will come with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. It’s awaiting your dollars at AT&T’s site if you’re interested.
HD Voice quality is superb… and AT&T beating everyone out the gate [thumbs up]
T-Mo has had HD Voice for quite a while now, and Sprint got it recently as well. Granted T-Mo and Sprint are doing it over 3G, not LTE, but the audio quality is the same.
Few days back T-mobile announced starting HD Voice over LTE in Seattle,WA. So, everyone is moving towards what AT&T started implementing, VoLTE. Voice quality for audio calls over LTE vs 3G circuit switched can be close if 3G uses codec type, AMR-WB (wideband) like VoLTE. Though, LTE network is faster, more efficient than 3G resulting in faster call connection, better overall voice, data experience.
Well, HD Voice is available on T-mobile but using VoLTE for HD voice is where AT&T is first. Now, question is how many current LTE enabled devices are supported by AT&T VoLTE and what is timetable for rolling out VoLTE HD in rest of the USA for AT&T customers ? Also, how it may work across different carrier where one side is AT&T VoLTE HD and other side not ?
I thought people would be all over on this subject posting here asking AT&T and other cell carriers about their support, roll out time table in their area for HD voice on VoLTE but it seems smartphone community is at sleep and ignorant.
Well,
I am satisfied with my 1 year old Galaxy S4 and not interested in this deal. However,
this new Galaxy S4 offers latest android version 4.4 KItKat apart from HD Voice
but there is some issue with latest android version like quick battery
drainage. My friend has Nexus 5 and he told me not to update 4.4 KitKat versions
as he is facing this battery drainage issue from last 3 months and to overcome
it he recently purchased a wireless charger for it to keep the device fully
charged. Well, after the launch of 4.4.3 version, I may look for Galaxy S5.
