While the Samsung Galaxy Gear smart watch was only compatible with one smartphone at launch, Samsung is looking to make quick work of bringing compatibility to more of their top handsets in due time. The Samsung Galaxy S4 has already started to get that upgrade in places like Germany, and units in other regions should be seeing that same upgrade (which will also bring folks up to Android 4.3) quite soon.

Samsung also announced that update would be coming to the Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 and 6.3, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (which is coming to the US next month). We suppose it’s better to be late than to never show up at all.

The Galaxy Gear sports a 1.63-inch 320 x 320 color display, a 1.9 megapixel camera sensor, Bluetooth 4.0, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, a 315mAh battery, an 800MHz processor and more. Let’s just hope Samsung is also still working on bringing compatibility to devices which don’t bear the Samsung name.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. If they can make it smaller, with better battery life, im getting the next iteration.

    1. Why smaller? So your slitty Kolean eyes can see better?

We will never forget Virginia Tech.

      1. that would actually make no sense even if I was a korean

        1. There’s not hiding your stinky kimchi breath.

I’ve been watching your stupid comments for a while: Samsung ram is better than all the ram produced by others; Korean technologies are best; blah blah blah…

          You are a fucking gook.

If Kolea is so great, why don’ you go back to your Gook Mother Land.

        1. Cool, sign me up for hell ! Love that song and video.

      3. This comment proves to me you never seen a womans slitty. You prob have no idea what that is because no one likes you and people avoid you.

  2. *Update available on your local US carrier…. someday.

  3. no Galaxy nexus support?

  4. I wouldn’t pay 300 for it. However I would LOVE to get it as a gift. Take note people.

  5. So since I’m on Sprint, I’ll have the update to my Note 2 by the time the Gear 2 comes out?

  6. Is anyone actually paying $300 for these things? What a crazy price!

    1. Unfortunately, yes. I walked into best buy the day it released and there was a guy in line already testing out his new Note 3 and Galaxy Gear. And then an old man walked in asking about the Gear! I’m like, “dang, am I the only one that sees this is nothing more than an expensive little novelty?” I honestly feel that Samsung is getting on Apple status and it’s scary. All they need to do is slap their name or Galaxy on a product and it will sell.

  7. Weird that its not going to regular S4 but it is the S3?

      1. That’s what I thought. Wording of the blog post was misleading.

  8. @velomark…
The Galaxy S4 IS getting compatibility. The article even states that the update has already begun to roll out.

  9. good so now more people get to not buy it… maybe at $100 but $300 and it is not a standalone device…. no thank you

  10. O joy, compatibility for more Samsung phones. How bout compatibility for all other Smartphones. This is a not even news worth reporting.

    1. I thought you like to make fun of all other smartphones.

      1. Not really, im not a Samsung phone owner. I have a HTC ONE. Well maybe i make a lot of fun of iPhones, but thats about it, lol.

  11. @bridgebuilder78…

    Wow! Racist much…???

  12. I couldn’t resist the urge to splurge. I bought a Gear a couple of days ago. After installing Nova Launcher. I actually sort of like it. Not a must have. I just like gadgets so I wanted to try it out. I love my Note 3 though!

  13. The watch rocks. Looks surprisingly good, and a must have for anyine who cant afford to miss calls or always go grabbing for their phone. Apple is behind the curve on this one, and seems kike the haters are mostly Apple junkies. Funny that many of the people complaining about a $300 watch are same people that over paid for sub-par Apple products. The watch rocks, and will be the wave of the future. Thanks Samsung!

  14. Hey any body can me tell that samsung gear is water proof or not pleasee
