Was Google hiding Nexus 5 under our noses this entire time, inside the Android 4.3 camera app?

Nexus 5 edited PhanBack before we ever caught our officially unofficial first glimpse of the Nexus 5 in the now infamous KitKat unveiling video, really we had no idea what to expect. Really, the Nexus 4 (2013) Nexus 5 could have been a triangle shape with dual-5MP 3D cameras slapped on the back for all we knew. The unique corner camera placement, the strange circle earpiece — none of that was known until later leaks. But is it possible Google was hiding the phone right under our noses this entire time… and we didn’t even know it?

Android 4.3 camera app Nexus 5

What you’re looking at is the recently updated Android 4.3 camera app, the same camera app that was initially extracted from the Google Play edition devices and made available for download back in June. In the new menu system, you’ll notice the icon of a device used for switching between rear and front facing cameras. Take a closer look and you’ll see that it is, in fact, the upcoming Nexus 5. The general shape is there, slim top bezel, large corner camera placement, and after selecting the front facing camera view — lo and behold, the Nexus 5’s (odd) circle earpiece. Wow, who’da thunk it?

Well, this this guy from Reddit actually. He knew the entire time, even submitted a thread about it almost a month ago. Most everyone dismissed him as a looney, a crazy person looking for something that really wasn’t there. Well, good sir, a thousand internet points to you.

  1. I’m confused as to why the ear piece in the center is odd. Where the heck else would it be?

    1. What’s weird is that it’s a circle. Both the Nexus and the 4.3 camera apk. That’s hat he meant.

    2. I meant more the shape. It’s a hole. Not a slit. Not towards the top. Smack dab in the center of the top bezel.

      1. Ah I see what you mean now. Yeah, it is a little weird but as long as it sounds good and doesn’t have a different colored bezel then I won’t care.

        1. I honestly think they could put the hole on the very top of the phone. I don’t know about anyone else, but I place the very top of my phone near the middle of my ear when I talk on it. Could just be me though :P

          1. In order to not have to wipe off my screen after rubbing against a sweaty cheek? I do the same thing. Lol. I just wish that people who borrow my phone would do the same!

          2. Face oil on my phone that does not belong to me is one of my least favorite phone related things.

          3. LOL! So true! xD

          4. Exactly why I don’t let people talk on my phone.

          5. hahaha i turn on the speaker when someone want to use my phone xD, ” you want to call ? forget about your privacy”

          6. lol me too, with the top edge of the phone against my ear

      2. teehee, talking about holes and slits ;P

        1. lol

      3. Is a round hole really that odd? It’s unconventional, but since the speaker is round, it makes sense for the hole to be the same shape.

  2. =.O

The scoundrels!! They’ve done it again!! With their tricks and deception!!

    LoL!! That’s insane.

  3. google and their easter eggs.

  4. I wish they would hide exposure lock somewhere in the OS.

  5. I wondered before the Nexus 5 started leaking why that icon on my G’Nex’s camera app looked so different from other Nexus phone models running Android 4.3. I guess I know why now.

That’s kind of a fun Easter egg, though. In typical Google fashion.

  6. We have to believe the CRAZIES

  7. Lol. Intentional or not, it’s pretty funny the similarity and how none of us questioned it.

  8. Gotta love them Easter Eggs!
