Latest Vine update brings additional sharing options and push notifications

vine for android

We know, Vine is supposedly dying a slow death after Instagram introduced video yadda, yadda… Well, that’s not stopping Vine’s developers taking out the time to push out new updates, the latest hitting the Play Store just in time for the weekend.

With the newest version, Viners now have the ability to share user profiles through more than just the SMS app (hopefully all Android apps with sharing capabilities will be available). Users can also look forward to push notifications, so they never miss a mention or re-Vine.

While most of time is usually focused on Instagram for keeping up with friends, I recently found myself turning to Vine for quick entertainment consumption. Google Play link below.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

        1. You were really waiting for this update??

          1. Well, not necessarily the update. But I was waiting for the sharing feature. I posted the comment before trying it out, and turns out, you have to have Facebook or Twitter.

  2. Vine is a straight Entertainment and its way better than Instagram to me

    1. only bc u follow pornstars…and no im not hating

  3. vine blew it by running the ol iso train until a huge following and thennn developing for android….companies need to realize that they will make a lot more money and survive a lot longer if they buck up the bucks n develop for all platforms from the get…now instagram comes out with video n nobody on android touches vine anymore bc the app was pathetic…yeah now its good…lil to late for me to have an extra app on my phone

  4. “Vine is supposedly dying a slow death after Instagram introduced video”

That’s a load of croc that facebook is perpetuating. Most people are using Topsy analytics graphs to conclude that vine is dying, but topsy’s data is totally wrong. If you want to get more accurate metrics on vine sharing on twitter, try searching for vine on twitter and check the “History” chart (see pic below). There was a big dip in vine shares in late june after instagram video was announced, but it’s now back stronger than ever.

You can get a similar picture by looking at vine’s appstore rankings. It had dropped to rank 26 for a few days after instagram video was announced, but it’s back in the top 10 again.
