Flud social news reader

It’s tough out there for app makers. With over a million applications available in the Google Play Store (it’s true), sometimes you just get lost in the mix. Take Flud, a social news reader that allowed users to follow and share news around the web with others.

Flud’s founder, designer, and CEO Bobby Ghoshal sent out an email today announcing the shutting down of the application and service which garnered between 50,000 – 100,000 app installs on the Play Store, 5-star reviews from 472 users, and over 2,000 +1’s on Google+. Needless to say, it appears to have had a following.

Moving forward, Goshal says that they’ll be selling off Flud’s technology and IP and for users who’d like to download all their data, can start by jumping on www.flud.it before the service officially goes dark on August 8th.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. Sad to see devs having to give up. I wonder what the root issues were

    1. they didn’t “give up”. They sold.

      1. No they didn’t. They would love to (as would I) but that unfortunately is not the case

  2. I hope they got a good price. They achieved at least 50,000 more installs than I have, and with a product named Flud. Total killers.

  3. Hey – I know this app. In fact – I wrote it

  4. didn’t even know it existed…. too many social media apps now a days, people need to get more creative and find new ways to integrate popular social media better instead of creating a new one from scratch, who wants 20 different logins and accounts with 20 different friends networks and no way to check them all at once… i say give me ONE social media account with 20 different ways to use it…
