Confirmed: Vine for Android coming soon to the Google Play Store
As a social media junkie, Vine has been one of the few “must have” apps I’ve envied my iOS friends for having at their disposal. Never sure of the exact reason, the developers have seemingly shunned an Android port after the app was introduced on iOS back in January (it’s now #1 in the iTunes store).
For those unaware, Vine is an app that allows users to create small, 6 second video clips, pausing the video during recording as many times as they’d like. These clips can be easily shared to Twitter or Facebook, giving a small peek into someone’s daily life. It’s true alternatives like Cinemagram exist, but not having direct Twitter integration was always a downside. The worst part is we were never sure if Vine was ever coming to Android — and that’s what was really driving me nuts.
Wonder no more, friends. While speaking at the Tribeca Film Festival, the Vine developers have finally confirmed that an Android version of their video app is indeed in the works. No word on an exact release date but really, that’s all I ever needed. Just a small glimmer of hope. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for further updates. In the meantime, you can watch all the world’s Vines as they’re uploaded in real-time (warning, you may begin to hate the world and everyone in it when you’re done).
