Here’s another one to mark down on your Mobile World Congress watch list: the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2. The phone would follow the original Samsung Galaxy Xcover (S5690) and feature a similar combination of mid-range specs and rugged construction.
Specs being floated for the device, which carries model number S7110, include a 4-inch WVGA display, 5MP camera, and 1700mAh battery, all upgrades from the original Xcover. It will launch with Jelly Bean in Titan Gray and Red/Black color schemes.
It’s a no brainer to include IP67 certification for the device, the same standard for the original Xcover approving the device for resistance to shock, dust, and dirt. It can also survive submerged in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. Now, implement the same sort of resilience in a flagship phone like the Galaxy S4 and then we’re really talking…

Do people REALLY drop their expensive cell phones in water THAT much? Why have a solution for a problem that rarely occurs? Why not fix the problem that occurs 99% of the time: Dropped it and the glass broke.
Imagine that?? Some people actually use their phones differently than you do….military, construction, etc, etc.
Those types of comments are too common, it doesn’t matter if it’s a lower end phone for consumers who don’t want an expensive phone or phones like this for people that work in construction and military as you said, the thought that people might use different phones for different things baffles them. It’s quite annoying to say the least.
Very close minded comment. . Oh I get it I just read your nickname.
I work at Verizon. People REALLY DO drop their phones in water THAT MUCH! We get several customers every day who have done it. Happens ALL THE TIME!
would love to see more high end rugged phones. Just because I’m outside doesn’t mean I want a slow phone. Not many choices lately…
