New Nexus 4, 7, and 10 owners: Don’t forget your free movies, TV shows, music, and magazines

27

Just a heads up for all you brand new Nexus 4, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 users out there. While Google’s $25 Google Play credit may have expired back in September, ‘ol Googs is still nice enough to give you guys some complimentary free goodies by way of a movie and television show download/streams (depending on your part of the world), along with a random assortment of magazines and music.

If you’re in the US, head on over to your Play Movies & TV apps to find the full length movie, Transformers: Dark of the Moon available for download/streaming, along with the 2-hour series premier of Falling Skies and an episode of Planet Earth (Nexus 4 only). The Nexus 7 and 10 swap Transformers for Ice Age, and somehow lose Falling Skies in the mix.

If you didn’t get stuck with the puny 8GB Nexus 4/7 models, you can even “pin” these videos and download ’em straight to your device. While it may be nice to watch without an active data connection, keep in mind Transformers alone will take up a whopping 2.7GB of storage space. Thank, god for streaming.

When it comes to music and magazines, you’ll find a handful of artists (you probably never heard of), and a few magazines too. Just jump into Play Music and Play Magazines to find them already waiting for you. If Google added Cheers.

Thanks, Molo!

  9. If someone were to stream the entire Transformers movie, they will surely reach their data cap within less than a week. No one has unlimited service except Sprint, and I’m not sure how reliable they are. Tmo has it too, and they’re pretty straight. So then it’s suggested you use WiFi. Ok. Let me go to my local coffee shop and watch a movie. Really? Wouldn’t you do that at home. Then if you’re at home, wouldn’t you just use another home related stream service like Netflix or actually have the movie? I mean if you’re going to only watch movies at home, you’d benefit more from Netflix or Hulu.

Google’s idea of the cloud isn’t prime time yet. Not just yet. I like it, but it’s not ready and I wish they would recognize that. Oh well. That’s my 2 cents on the matter. Hope everybody enjoys their free downloads.

    1. T-Mobile has unlimited. and it’s not throttled anymore. I’ve used about 15GB since I got my Nexus 4 :)

    2. I was a Sprint customer, a very loyal one at that. I still like them, but I got fired a year and a half ago, an agent at a call center failed to properly work with me, the first time ever with them, and I ended up in collections and a couple of months ago I opened a T-Mobile account. I’m still confused as to if they’re actually 4G or not, I get different answers constantly, but regardless download speed on T-Mobile is super fast. Also, it seems they train their call center staff well. And I have worked in various call centers for the last 5 years. But their unlimited data is even more awesome than Sprint’s, mostly due to download speed but I used over 7 GB within three weeks of opening my account. I don’t even wanna know what I used over WiFi. o_O

  11. how do u swap ice age for transformers ?

  12. My Nexus 7 16GB that I bought on Black Friday came with Ice Age instead of Transformers.

  13. I’m in the UK, a few books I’ve never heard of, some music I’ll never listen to. No movies or magazines

  14. i bought a new nexus 7 32gb yesterday in the UK and dont seem to have got any freebies. Sent a feedback to google now. I bought a nexus 7 16gb 4m ago during the launch promotion and got the transformers movie as a freebie that shows in my account but no freebies for the 32gb tablet purchased yesterday. iceage shows up as 10£ for purchase on the store on my device. annoying to see the freebies are given randomly and not to all purchases. cant see anything else new on my new purchase made yesterday as far as i can tell.
Can phandroid get some googler to update on this issue please as to every new purchase gets some freebies or is it new accounts only. probably should have registered the device in my wifes name and maybe i would have got the freebies on new device as well.

  15. The most unbelievable thing about the Transformers movies: That Shia would ever score a hot chick without gobs and gobs of money.

  16. That would be the clip and thumbnail that you’d use, Chris… xD
