Android 4.1.2 Over-The-Air Update Now Rolling Out To Google Play Galaxy Nexus (Takju)

21

That didn’t take long. After the international model of the Galaxy Nexus began receiving its over-the-air update to Android 4.1.2 a few days ago, now those that purchased the device in the Google Play Store can get in on some of the fun as well.

We’ve received quite a few Phantips, alerting us that the OTA update is now live, so if you haven’t yet been prompted, jump into your Settings app and pull it manually. If it’s still not there, you can either sit tight, or manually download the update (but only if you’re running JRO03, and you know exactly what you’re doing). The update can be grabbed via Google’s server here.

As for the rest of us, we’ll just be hanging out, wishing we knew what it was like to have the absolute latest version of Jelly Bean. (Sigh).

Thanks, ToxMarz, Flyingsolow, Forrest, and Justin!

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. Join the ROM club Chris, had my 4.1.2 since the 10th on Sensation :p

    1. ^@%^$!%@ I think it’s time to root this damn Galaxy S3… O_o

      1. I’ll swap you my 4.1.2 (unloved) Sensation for your 4.0.4? GSIII ;)
I’ll allow you to pay for the postage :p

        1. I waited a little while too, don’t know why I waited but it’s good to finally be up to date again.

        2. Nevar! I switched to this from the Galaxy Nexus. Poor thing had a lot of spunk in it, but just couldn’t keep up with its weak OMAP =/

          1. Oh no’s! Had to go for the GNex diss in your post celebrating receiving the latest greatest pure Google experience on one of the only devices that can receive it (without a mod or carrier interference). In the post you said “As for the rest of us, we’ll just be hanging out, wishing we knew what it was like to have the absolute latest version of Jelly Bean. (Sigh)” then you bust on it in the comments as not good enough for you for. Two different issues, you should keep them separate. We know the difference and this is why we choose one or the other (no one who buys an off contract Nexus in the Play store is a casual buyer.) They have their plusses and minuses. As annoying as they are, the iPhone fanboys don’t do the whole circular firing squad routine that android users do. Okay, just a little rant. I’m over it.

      2. you should definitely root it. The CM10 monthly build #2 is freaking awesome!

        1. I say any Android phone that isn’t a GSM Nexus should be rooted.

      3. LOL,,,the day I rooted by gnex a few hours later vzw did the ota….so much for that!

      4. Could you guys explain to me why you root? Someone asked me this question and I said that I really didn’t know other than free Hot Spot but even now I think that is “free” for non users since the Share Everywhere Plan.

        1. There are numerous reasons…some require unlocking the bootloader, etc if not already done…but you can run custom roms (many of which can be better than the original stock rom), overclock/underclock, control your voltage, there are dozens of other customization options not available to the stock rom, pull updates much quicker (unless your device isn’t dev supported, then it’s a little more difficult), the list just goes on and on. These are only a few of the reasons I do it.

        2. I do to get faster updates and for customization. For instance, I’m enjoying 4.1.2 for several days now, on a phone that the manufacturer stopped supporting at 2.1…not like that’s ever happened before…

  2. thanks for the heads up

  3. Mine popped up last night while out with my Lady.

  4. Thanks for the reminder. Mine came through in the middle of the night. I hit the update, rolled over and went back to sleep and forgot all about it.

  5. got the new update on the takju built this morning! :)

  6. I got it this morning. What does this update bring?

  7. Was running 4.1.2 on my VZW Nexus before my Nexus 7 got it’s OTA, thanks to Liquidsmooth.

  8. I’ve had 4.1.2 on my S3 for about a week. lol

  9. I received the 4.1.2 on my takju last night. I was pretty surprised, since I’m actually overseas and I expected Google to do their usual discriminating against devices in different geolocations.
