Motorola Atrix 2 Update Details Revealed – Brings Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and Other Goodies

Earlier today we got word that the Motorola Atrix 2 was set to be on the receiving end of a soak test that brought… well, we didn’t really know what to exepct. As it turns out, Motorola has finally let the cat out of the bag, revealing all the deets Atrix 2 owners can look forward to in software build 67.21.125. No, it’s not another maintenance update. This is a fully upgrade firmware taking the Atrix 2 from Gingerbread, all the way up to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. Here’s all the goodies you guys can look forward to in 67.21.125:

New User Interface

Look and Feel Updated colors, font, icons, and animations. Added adjustable text size.
Lockscreen Enhanced lockscreen to include quick access to dialer, text messaging, camera, and homescreen.
Folders Added new homescreen folders that let users group apps and shortcuts by dragging one onto another.
All Apps Screen Updated All Apps screen to include access to both Apps and Widgets.
Notifications Enhanced notifications window to include access to settings menu and new swipe to dismiss functionality for individual notifications.
Settings Created a reorganized and easier to navigate settingsmenu, including toggles for airplane mode, Wi-Fi, and

Bluetooth®.

Keyboard Redesigned keyboard for faster input with improved error correction and word suggestion.

 

Improved Features

Email Enhanced Email app with address auto-completion, quick response emails, and searching across folders and subfolders.
Camera Improved the camera with time-lapse video, snapshotsduring video recording, ability to use volume keys as shutter button, updated zoom control look and feel, and flash-assisted low light focus.
Voice Action Upgraded voice input engine to allow for continuous dictation, pausing, and inclusion of punctuation.
Webtop Updated webtop interface to an Android 4.0 tablet-like experience with key apps optimized for the resolution and screen size of external monitors.
New andUpdated Apps Added latest versions of AT&T apps, Pre Loaded apps and Google apps.

 

New Features

SMARTACTIONS™ Added SMARTACTIONS™ app that intelligently automates routine, everyday tasks and suggests ways to personalize your phone and make your life easier. This app can help you extend your battery life and do things like automatically send a text to certain missed callers.
Face Unlock Added facial recognition technology for a new way to unlock the user’s phone.
People App Replaced the contacts app with the new People app, which includes larger pictures and rich profile information.
Screenshot Added capability to take screenshots by holding both the power and volume down keys for a few seconds.

If you haven’t been prompted for the update, you can always manually check for one by jumping into your Settings and selecting > About Phone > System Updates > Download > Install. As always, make sure you’ve got more than 50% battery and you’re connected to WiFi before attempting to update. Good luck, everyone!

  1. In a refreshing move by Motorola, plans have been announced to preemptively abandon this device in favor of one that hasn’t been announced yet.

  4. May be it is still in the soak test and not yet out for all consumers.
    I have Atrix 4G :-( and dying to see some kind of news about soak tests starting for it now that Atrix 2 is almost out the door.

  5. maybe good things will come to those who wait. LOL. Still waiting. Motorola site says its out but I guess it takes time. I keep checking my phone. Still says its up to date.
