What do camping, dinosaurs, and The Little Prince have in common? No, it’s not a new family-friendly Steven Spielberg flick, it’s Google’s first ad for the Nexus 7. The spot, which features a father and son enjoying the great outdoors and bonding over the Google’s 7-inch Jelly Bean tablet, appeared on YouTube over the weekend and touts “the playground is open” after a twist that I won’t spoil here. You will have to check out the full ad above for that. So is this one a hit or a miss? Sound off below.

This is a hit if you have kids (which I do). It’s not going to appeal to the hipster crowd like Apple’s highly successful commercials though.
The crowd with kids is a much bigger market segment (albeit a less influential one) than the hipster set.
Love it!
Quite clever but.. are they actually saying that if you want to take your Nexus 7 camping you’d better not go out of wifi range?
No.
I guess you’d use a portable hotspot on your phone, a faff but only one phone contract.
I thought it was great. I could see that getting the attention of people. Just like casual people who will see that and go “oh i want to experience that.” Heck I wanted to pick one up and go camping after I saw it.
I hate camping but I love dinosaurs. I’m picking one up because of that.
great ad. until you realize you cant actually do half of that unless you were camping in the backyard (unless you tether of course). never the less.. cant wait to get mine on thursday!
Reminds me of me and my kid. My backyard camping would be be much cooler if we had woods though.
I will be selling my iPad 1 and finally picking up an Android tablet because this this is the real deal.
Its an OK commercial, I love my nexus 7and my android phone, but Google doesn’t have anywhere near the marketing skill that apple has
Great ad. Not Apple-feeling yet the premium feel of an Apple ad.
Very nicely done, without a hint of Apple-psyops.
Great! Now plaster it on TV!!!
